THE MORISSON SUITE

Drawing inspiration from the ornate jewelry motifs of famed Viennese goldsmith Friedrich Jacob Morisson, Alexandre Reza envisioned parures featuring oval rubies and sapphires, or octagonal and square-cut emeralds, set in intricate scrolled or floral gold and diamond mounts. This aesthetic subtly alluded to the beaded gold ropework that would eventually become Reza’s hallmark “perlée” gold settings in the late 1980s and 1990s.

GOUACHE RENDERING OF THE MORISSON SUITE, EMERALD

This emerald suite is remarkable for many reasons, the foremost being the collection of the extraordinary stones it demonstrates. These gems are flawless examples of old mine Colombian emeralds, striking an ideal harmony between yellow and blue tones to produce an intensely vivid green color. The emeralds are remarkably consistent in hue, with many displaying a rare absence of inclusions. This collection is a powerful reflection of the immense dedication, passion, and perseverance needed to assemble such an extraordinary array of gemstones.
